Blessed Beyond Measure

Last week, Patty and I were blessed by some very special friends. A Bible study small group (part of our 40 Days of Community emphasis) adopted Patty and me for the week. They made us the object of their love and encouragement. Each member of the group did something to bless us.

One blessed us with dinner to Chilis, which we will use when Patty gets adjusted to her new teeth. The children of another family made sack puppets for us. We each received a fruit plate and we were blessed with emails and notes of encouragement. One man came by the house and gave us a gift certificate to Sonic--one of our favorite fast food places. The climax came Saturday when three members of the group and their children came over and surprised us by mowing and raking our backyard.

I tend to feel a little embarrassed about being the recipient of such attention --especially having the yard done. It was an embarrasment because the yard was looking pretty shabby. God, however, showed me that my pride was out of place.

Patty and I are both very grateful for the affection and encouragement we were given. It has amazed and humbled us. What a precious group of people God has given us the privilege of knowing. They are a wonderful family.
