I read a quote by Jim Elliot, the missionary martyr. He said, “Wherever you are, be all there.”
There are times when, though my body is one place, my heart is someplace else. We’ve all experienced that at times.
As a Christian I need to live alert to the moment I have. Alert to the situation at hand. God is at work in the lives of people all around me. When I go through the motions of life, without being fully engaged, it is easy to miss what God is doing.
When we are present someplace, but not fully there, we fail to see opportunities to serve and love in Christ’s name.
Paul told the Ephesians, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” (Eph 5:15-17 NLT)
The challenge: Wherever I am, be all there, and make the most of every opportunity I have to honor my Father and to love others.
