This morning in Sunday School we talked about God's goodness, love and faithfulness to us. He is utterly good. Utterly dependable and utterly faithful. Psalm 100 verse 5 says, "For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." (NIV)
We tend to take God's amazing grace for granted when everything is going well. When times are difficult, we usually don't feel God's love--at least at first. As we focus on God, recall His faithfulness to us and look at our circumstances through His eyes, we are able to rely on Him. We are also enabled to express thanksgiving, and He shares His peace and joy with us.
How can we know that God truly loves us and is at work around us? By looking at Jesus Christ.
On November 29, 1776, Anglican hymnwriter John Newton wrote in a letter: 'He knows our sorrows, not merely as He knows all things, but as one who has been in our situation, and who, though without sin himself, endured when upon earth inexpressibly more for us than He will ever lay upon us.'
Romans 5:8 says, "But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!" (HCSB) God demonstrated His love by fleshing it out in the person of His Son--both through His life and ministry, and, especially, through His death.
