Blessings

"Count your many blessings, name them one by one" encourages the hymn. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. It is NOT Turkey Day, though we will eat turkey. It is not a day set aside to commemorate the turkey, although it almost became our national bird. Thanksgiving is the special day set aside to commemorate the blessings we have received and to invite us to review them "one by one."

In keeping with the tradition of Thanks-giving, I have been thinking about what I'm thankful for. Here are a few "biggies" on my list.

  • Patty, my wife
  • Family (immediate and extended)
  • Home
  • Wonderful coworkers
  • Good friends
  • Peace of heart
  • My Bible study small group
  • My Sunday School class
  • My church
  • Music
  • Color
  • Sight and Sound
  • God
  • The Bible (God's Word to us)

I hope you have made your list of blessings. A friend of mine created a "Thanksgiving Jar." Every day of the year she writes down something that she is thankful for. When Thanksgiving comes, she pours out her jar and reads and thinks about all 365 blessings. What a great idea!
